Update and farewell from Mama

Sorry it has taken so long for me to write an update.  Where has the time gone?  The past 6 weeks have been a whirlwind... we met, have been spending time together on weekends, and she'll be moving in at the end of June.  She's really an amazing girl with lots of personality and extremely adorable too.  And also very smart so she figured out all about my blog and how to read it, lol.  So out of repsect for her privacy now that it's really happening and we are moving forward so quickly, this is my last blog post and if you would like further updates feel free to facebook pm me anytime... thanks for reading and maybe once it's all said and done I'll post our first family photo for you to all enjoy :)

At last we meet

False alarm -the delay is off.

It's final - the exceptions committee has given the green light for my culture plan and I'm heading up to my new daughter community tomorrow for our first meeting.  It's so exciting; there are no words to describe it.  For those of you who have been through this process before you know exactly how I feel.  For those of you who haven't you don't but you can imagine.  I had no idea how this would feel and have been taking it all in stride.  But now that the day has finally come I am speechless.  If you know me, you know that never happens!

They told her the good news last weekend so I imagine it has been a long week for her too.  She took the news really well and is super excited. Or as she put it in the email she sent me "nervous but stoked".  I sent her a photo album that I made for her with photos of myself, my bf, mom/dad, brothers & wives, a few friends, the house, the dogs, & her new school.  Apparently the book brought so much joy into her heart and am I so glad she liked it.

Tomorrow night she is making me dinner then we will be doing various activities throughout the weekend to get to know each other.  I know all mothers think their children are the best but I must say that from everything I know about her she is an amazing young lady and I'm going to be so privileged to be her mom.

End of April can't come soon enough

Ah, the magic month of March....  the Exceptions Committee would say yes on the 21st, her guardianship worker would give her the good news that they found someone to adopt her, the team of professionals would have the Plan of Care (POC) meeting on the 27th, and then I would go to her community to meet her for the first time on the 31st.  Preplacement visits would ensue and then the transition would finally take place after that.  What a plan!

Hold the fort, not so soon.  Unfortunately her guardianship worker has taken an unexpected month off for a family medical emergency and my heart does go out to her and her family but what has transpired due to the absence is that the POC meeting has been postponed until the end of April <insert tears here>  which is going to seem like a long time to wait.  One good silver lining is that since they haven't told M yet she won't be affected by this emotionally. Thank goodness for that - she's been through enough!

While I can't quite wrap my head around why the person covering for the social worker can't go ahead with the POC meeting I trust my adoption worker whole heartedly. My worker has been there 110% for me throughout this entire journey and if she says there's nothing we can do then I trust that's the case.  So I'll bide the time and be patient and the easter bunny will just have to visit her at the end of the month instead of the beginning!

So there you have it in a nutshell where we're at.  It's not the end of the world and I'm sure the next month will fly by but I wanted to let you all know that the grand introduction won't be happening soon after all. I'm going to stay positive and write again at the end of next week after the Exceptions committee reviews my culture plan.
